Claude "Sonny" Coy Jr., 61, of Madisonville, died Monday, October 13, at the University of Louisville Medical Center in Louisville.

Mr. Coy was born May 10, 1942 in Central Grove, Ky.

He was a U.S. navy veteran and had worked at Hamilton #1 coal mines.

He was preceded in death by his father Claude Coy Sr.; and one brother Buddy Coy.

Survivors include his mother Auretta Hurt Catron of Madisonville; one daughter, Debbie Hammock of Madisonville; two sons, Jimmy Coy of Sturgis and Timmy Coy of Salem; two sisters, Patty Sissom ad Pam Brown, both of Madisonville; one brother, Wayne Coy of Madisonville; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Ryland Brown officiating. Burial with military graveside rites were in the Grapevine Cemetery.

Robert G. Day, 83, of West Paducah, Ky., formerly of Sturgis, died at his home Sunday, October 12, 2003.

Mr. Day was a decorated veteran of World War II, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, five Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He retired as Chief Engineer from The Cargill Towing Company after more than 30 years with the river industry.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Naomi Day; one brother, R.K. Day; and one sister, Ernestine Phillips.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Sue; two daughters, Reynae Smith of Paducah and LycreCia (Kiki) Mason of Mancos, Colo.; two granddaughters, Teri Jo Passassante of Northridge, Calif., and Nicole Ashley of West Paducah; one grandson, Cody Mason of Mancos, Colo.; one great-grandson Dalton Ashley of West Paducah; two sisters, Margaret Owen of Sturgis and Maudi Jean Springer of Evansville, Ind.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Whitsell Funeral Home Sturgis with Rev., Robert Phillips officiating. Burial will be in the Caseyville Cemetery in Caseyville.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. till service time today at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at their home in West Paducah Thursday.

Gladys Louise Jordan, 75, of Morganfield, died at 2 p.m., Sunday, October 12, 2003 at Morganfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Jordan was a member of New Life Worship Center in Morganfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth R. Jordan in 1984; a son Kenneth H. Jordan in 2001; a son Darrell Jordan in 1969; her mother Maggie Ward in 1967; a sister Mary Matthews in 1998; and a sister Geneva Ward in 1954.

Survivors include three daughters, Tammy Preston and Libby Fowler, both of Morganfield and Kathy Sanderson of Mayfield; two sons, Jim "J.J." Jordan of Henderson and Randall "Axle" Jordan of Morganfield; one sister Marge Dickens of Evansville; three brothers, Eugene "Boss" Ward of Sturgis and George and Milton Ward, both of Evansville; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Rev. Randy Wisdom officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Morganfield.

Friends may call from noon until 8 p.m. today, Wednesday and from 8 a.m. till service time Thursday at the funeral home.

Betty A. Cooper, 73, of Sturgis, died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2003 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind.

Mrs. Cooper was a choir member for many years at the Methodist Church.

Survivors include her husband Bill; one daughter Margaret Cooper of Sturgis; one brother Peyton Heady of Morganfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 13 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. Ken Berggren and Rev. Marvin Lagle officiating. Burial was in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Robert Spalding Luckett, 68, Lt. Col. USAF (Ret) died Thursday, October 9, 2003 at his home in Montgomery, Ala.

Mr. Luckett was born Feb. 4, 1935 in Paducah, to the late B. Spalding and Mary G. Luckett. He lived in Morganfield for a short period until his family moved to Louisville.

He graduated from Holy Name School in 1949 and St. Xavier High School in 1943. He graduated from the University of Louisville in 1957 with a bachelor of science degree.

He then enlisted in the Air Force, initially serving in a radar facility. He attended Officer Candidate School, becoming an Air Police Officer upon graduation.

He served as a missile silo commander and had the opportunity to fire a ballistic missile off the coast of California as part of his training. He spent several years in the missile field, eventually his assignments included briefing Pentagon staff generals who visited Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Neb.

He was later assigned to fly the Air force Looking Glass program, the air Force command system which flew 24 hours a day for years. He served two tours overseas, serving first in Turkey and later as a base commander in Amsterdam. He was then assigned as an instructor at the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala. After 30 years of service, he retired while living in Montgomery and elected to make that his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an older brother Robert S. Luckett.

Survivors include one daughter Denise Fraser of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert S. Luckett Jr., and Meghan of Isle La Motte, Vt.; two grandchildren Christie and Brantley; one brother and sister-in-law William T. "Bill" and Cindy Luckett of Bardstown; two nieces; one nephew; and several cousins.

Per his request he was cremated.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 17. at 10 a.m. at St. Ann Church in Morganfield with a military burial in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be before the funeral Mass.

Memorial gifts may be made to either St. Ann Church, St.. Xavier High School or the American Cancer Society.

Ruth Yates Clark, 79, of Waverly, died at 5:20 p.m., Saturday, October 11, 2003 at Morganfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Clark was preceded in death by her parents Betty and Charlie Yates; two sisters, Dorothy Summers and Betty Sue Yates; and six brothers, Verlin, Richard, Charles Robert, Billie, Louis and James Yates.

Survivors include three sisters, Frances Polley and Margaret Johnson, both of Waverly and Mary Price of Dekoven; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Rev. Randy Farthing officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery in Waverly.

Friends may call until service time at the funeral home.

Fred Alloway Lamb, 80, of Sturgis, died at 7:20 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2003 at Methodist Hospital Union County.

Mr. Lamb was a World War II veteran, a teacher, coach, counselor and sports journalist for many years.

He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a Sunday School teacher.

Survivors include his wife Betty D. Lamb; one daughter, Anne L. Gaweda of Louisville; three sons, Donald W. Lamb, of Sturgis, Paul Frederic Lamb of Springfield, Tenn., and Mark G. Lamb of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Grace Price of Earlington; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Rebecca Salisbury officiating. Burial was in the Pride Bordley Cemetery.
