Mary Catherine Crowdus, 81, of Morganfield, died at 8:47 p.m., Monday, Aug. 4, 2003 at Methodist Hospital Union County.

Mrs. Crowdus was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church and enjoyed flower gardening.

Survivors include her husband of 62 years Robert Crowdus; seven daughters, Betty Grant and Jan Book, both of Henderson, Pat French of Sturgis, Linda Ruark of Uniontown, Rita Oye of Palmdale, Calif., Gail Wolfe of Waverly, and Marie McClure of Morganfield; four sons, Fred and Bill Crowdus, both of Morganfield, Joe Crowdus of Evansville, Ind., and Allen Crowdus of Lexington; three sisters, Alice Alvey of Henderson, Anna Louise Boruda of Texas, and Elizabeth Schmitt of Evansville, Ind.; 30 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Ann Catholic Church with Father Terry Devine officiating. Burial will be in the St. Ann Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 till 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, and from 8 a.m. till service time Thursday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Prayers will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Church.

Kathryn Lee Fletcher, 83, of Sugar Land, Texas, formerly of Sturgis, died July 22, 2003.

Mrs. Fletcher was born in Sturgis, Nov. 27, 1919, to Thomas and Inez (McCann) Christian. She attended Sturgis schools and graduated with her masters in education from Murray State University. She taught for 30 years in the Sturgis public schools.

She and her husband retired in Providence and she later moved to Sugar Land, Texas, where she was a member of Williams Trace Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn, and daughter, Anne Christian Knight.

Survivors include her grandchildren, Shannan Haire, Shawn Knight, Timothy Knight and Patrick Knight; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Austin Haire; two brothers, Charles Christian and wife Jean of Bethpage, Tenn., and Billy Christian of Nashville; one sister Dorothy Stiles and husband John of Charlotte, N.C.

Funeral services will be held at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9. Burial. will be in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Pauline Luckett, 88, of Fremont, Ohio formerly of Morganfield, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003 at Bethesda Care Center.

Miss Luckett was born Aug. 31, 1914 in Morganfield to the late Thomas Preston and Priscilla Sparks Luckett.

In earlier years she co-owned along with her sister the Gypsy Tea House in Morganfield. She played professional basketball from 1941-1944 on the team called Independence. She worked for the U.S. Post Office in Morganfield from 1944-1950. In 1950 she was transferred to the post office of Camp Breckinridge until 1952.

An injury necessitated limited activities and she cultivated her cooking and baking skills. She traveled and lived from California to Maine and made many friends along the way. She will be well remembered for the great heart she had for so many. Being a Kentucky girl she always had a love for horses an kept in tune with all the derby races.

She was formerly a member of St. Joseph Parish and in later years attended St. Ann Parish Community.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Alice Luckett, Ernestine Fenwick, Ann Deig, Grace Norton and Willie Luckett; one brother, Hampton Luckett; and one nephew Jim Luckett.

survivors include one niece, Betty Lassila of Henderson; one nephew, Bill Luckett of Morganfield; and a friend and companion, Doris Brotherhood of Fremont.

Funeral Mass and burial will be held at a later date in Morganfield.

Memorials may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame, Easter Seals or a charity of the donor's choice.

Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Griggs Henshaw of the Henshaw community, died at 11 a.m. Friday, August 1, 2003 at the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind., following open heart surgery.

Mrs. Henshaw was a member of the Sturgis Church of Christ.

Before marriage, she worked for the telephone company.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bobbie and Ida Griggs, two sisters Willie Claire Griggs and Margaret "Mog" Wilkerson and a brother Benny Griggs.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years Kenneth; two sons, J.K. and Bonnie of Louisville and Jerry and Marie of Henderson; and one daughter Pam and Vince Braddock of the Henshaw community; one sister Evelyn Schieber of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Aug. 3, at the Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Daniel Askew officiating. Burial was in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Henshaw Christian Church vision fund or to Union County St. Anthony's Hospice.

Sue Buchanan, 94, of Morganfield, died at 10:20 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2003 at Methodist Hospital Union County.

Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the Homemaker's Club in Union County and was an avid homemaker.

She was a member of Walnut Grove Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband Iloff Buchanan in 1972.

Survivors include one sister, Frances Rudd of Morganfield; three brothers, Maurice Springer and Charles Springer, both of Morganfield and Verbel Springer of Laurel, Miss.; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 2, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Bro. Sam Belo officiating. Burial was in the Odd Fellow Cemetery.
