Joseph Glenn
Hammond, 63, of Uniontown, died at 6:14 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2003 at
Methodist Hospital Henderson.
Mr. Hammond was
a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.
He was preceded
in death by his father Samuel Hammond; his mother, Emma Rose Hammond; and a
sister Cecilia Chambers.
Survivors include
one sister Frances Johnson of Owensboro; three brothers, Sam Hammond Jr., of
Louisville, Edward Hammond of Franklin, Ind., and Charles Raymond Hammond of
Uniontown; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services
will be held Thursday, July 17, at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Uniontown with
Father Terry Devine officiating. Burial will be in the St. Agnes Cemetery.
Friends may call
today, Wednesday, July 16 from 6 till 8 p.m. Prayers will be held at 6:30 p.m.,
Wednesday.

Virginia Stewart,
83, of Sturgis, died at 11:20 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2003, at Methodist Hospital
Henderson.
Mrs. Stewart was
a member of the Sullivan Baptist Church.
She was preceded
in death by her husband Jewel Stewart in 1976 and a brother Norman Mayes.
Survivors include
two daughters, Greta Collins of Sturgis and Brenda Luczai of Longmont, Colo.;
two sisters Wilma Morgan of Terre Haute, Ind., and Madeline Murphy, of Etta,
Mo.; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren;
five step-great-grandchildren; and one step, great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services
will be held today, Wednesday, July 16 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with
Rev. Don Collins and Rev. Mike Demoss officiating. Burial will be in the Pythian
Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.

Mary E. Gibbs,
84, of Morganfield, died at 7:09 p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2003 at Methodist Hospital
Union County.
Mrs. Gibbs was
born in 1919 to Rufus and Alice Ferrell Bebout. She was a member of the Church
of God. Her hobbies included cooking, canning, fishing and listening to Chicago
Cubs ball games.
She was preceded
in death by her husband Americus Gibbs in 1985; and a son Alfred Gibbs.
Survivors include
two sons, Parvin Gibbs of Madisonville and Tommy Gibbs of Sturgis; one sister,
Iva Fowler of Morganfield; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one
great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services
will be held today, Wednesday, July 16 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield
with Rev. Wayne Winters officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellow Cemetery
in Morganfield.
Friends may call
until service time today at the funeral home.
Grace Elizabeth
Waggener Shouse, 84, died Saturday, July 12, 2003 at Methodist Hospital
Union County.
Mrs. Shouse was
born in Union County, May 1, 1919 to Jesse Richard and Clara Tucker Waggener.
She was a 1938
graduate of Sturgis High School and a member of the First Baptist Church of
Sturgis. She was a homemaker and enjoyed collecting antiques.
She was preceded
in death by her father Jesse Richard Waggener; her mother Clara Tucker Waggener;
one brother, Richard Waggener; and one sister Ruth Waggener.
Survivors include
her husband of 62 years, Richard Nunn Shouse; one daughter, Barbara Nunn Shouse
Hansen of Sturgis; two grandsons, Thomas Lance Hansen of Greer, S.C., and James
Paul Hansen of Sturgis; and one brother, Wayne Waggener of Morganfield.
Funeral services
were held Tuesday, July 15, at the First Baptist Church in Sturgis with Rev.
Don Phelps officiating. Burial was in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery.

Isabelle Marie
McCauley Braddock, 83, of Henderson, died peacefully Friday, July 11, 2003
with her husband and daughter Theresa at her side at Angel River Health and
Rehabilitation in Newburg, Ind., form complications of a May 15 heart attack.
Isabelle was the
beloved wife of 54 years of J. Gordon Braddock. She was the matriarch to her
five children: Patrick (Linda) of Chang Mai, Thailand, Sheila (Joe) Smith of
LaGrange, Ky., Vincent (Pam) of Henshaw, Theresa (Jan) Chambliss of Henderson
and Brendan (Shawna) of Henderson.
She is also survived
by one brother Cliff McCauley of Chicago; 18 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.
She was preceded
in death by one infant son, Leo in 1957 and one brother John McCauley in 2000.
In addition to
raising her five children to love the Lord and be compassionate to others, Mrs.
Braddock was a devout member of St. Ambrose/St. Francis parishes in Sturgis
and Holy Name parish in Henderson. She taught CCD classes at St. Francis, tutored
children at St. Ann School in Morganfield, Sturgis Elementary and St. Peter's
School at St. Vincent. She taught adult literacy classes and was an adult English
tutor in Union and Henderson counties.
She was in the
forefront of the ecumenical prayer movement and courageously led by humble example
in caring for the poor and downtrodden, actively respecting the God-given dignity
of all people.
Funeral services
were Tuesday at St. Francis Borgia in Sturgis with Father Richard Cash officiating.
Burial was in the St. Ambrose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers,
donations may be given to the St. Ambrose renovation fund.
Horace Henry
"June" Smith Jr., 86, of Gilbertsville, Ky., formerly of Sturgis, died Thursday,
July 10, 2003 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
Mr. Smith was a
World War II veteran, a VFW member, a member of Hadi Temple, Evansville and
Elks Lodge #2707, Benton, Ky.
He was preceded
in death by his wife of 49 years Lois Ruth (Holeman) Smith; and a son, Stephen
V. Smith.
Survivors include
one daughter Nancy R. Smith and husband Greg Flittner of Brentwood, Tenn.; two
sons, Michael H. Smith of Las Vegas, Nev. and David B. Smith and wife Virginia
of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Austin, Morgan and Melissa
Smith and Greer, Meredith and Abigail Flittner.
Funeral services
were held Saturday, July 12 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Pastor
Eugene Powell officiating. Burial was in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery in Sturgis.
A memorial service
was held Sunday, July 13, at East Baptist Marshall Church in Gilbertsville with
Pastor Eugene Powell officiating.
Roy Henry,
64, of Sturgis, died at 11:50 am., Thursday, July 10, 2003 at Deaconess Hospital
in Evansville, Ind.
Mr. Henry was a
member of the Church of God and a retired coal miner.
Survivors include
his wife Mildred Henry; his mother Lucille Henry of Sturgis; one daughter, Kay
Luttrell of Marion; two sons, Sam and Troy Henry, both of Sturgis; one sister
Betty Norvell of Sturgis; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services
were held Saturday July 12 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis with Rev. Randy
Farthing officiating. Burial was in the Caseyville Cemetery in Caseyville.
Jane Brown,
55, of Dixon, formerly of Sturgis, died at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2003
at her home.
Mrs. Brown, a homemaker,
was born May 17, 1948 in Sturgis.
Survivors include
her husband Joe Brown; one son Jimmy Brown of Manitou; one sister Judy Smith
of Smith Mills; four brothers, Jimmy Estes of Marion, Tommy Estes, Buddy Estes,
and Bill Bernard, all of Sturgis; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services
were held Friday, July 11 at Townsend Funeral Home in Dixon with Rev. Curt Yarbrough
officiating. Burial was in the Townsend Cemetery.
Randall Lee
"Paw" Summers, 80, of Morganfield, died at 6:20 p.m., Thursday, July 3,
2003 at his residence.
Mr. Summers was
a World War II veteran, a member of the American Legion Post #0040, Henderson
and an Honorable Ky. Colonel. He was retired from the Federal government in
Fort Knox. He was a member of Ekron Baptist Church in Ekron, Ky.
Survivors include
his wife of 55 years, Ruth (Cowan) Summers; three daughters, Jane Lee Tripp
of Leitchfield, Ky., Carolyn Andrews of Morganfield and Kathy Lynn Reed of White
Mills, Ky.; four sons, James R. (Fruit) Summers of Clay, Steven K. Summers of
Leitchfield, Bruce Summers of Elizabethtown and Byron Summers of Henderson;
eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services
were held Sunday, July 6, at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with Rev.
Charles Blanc officiating. Burial was in the Pride-Bordley Cemetery in Union
County with full military rites conducted.

Robert Allen
Beabout, 60, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003 at his residence in Pacific.
Mr. Beabout, the
son of Audy Pearline (Meazles) Beabout and the late Vernon Beabout, was born
Dec. 14, 1942 in Wheatcroft.
On Jan. 6, 1964,
he was united in marriage to Sandra Foster in Clayton. One son was born to this
marriage. Bob and Sandra were married for 39 years.
Bob loved to collect
hot wheels, coins, stamps and miniature motorcycles. He also loved kids and
was a real people person.
He was employed
at Firestone and also at Suburban Engineering. He served his country honorably
as a member of the United States Army.
He was preceded
in death by his father Vernon Beabout Nov. 5, 1955; one brother Thomas Andrew
Beabout; and one sister Vernie Joretta Mertz.
Survivors include
his wife Sandra Beabout of Pacific; his mother Audy Pearline Beabout of Waverly;
one son, Jason Beabout of Pacific; two sisters, Carolyn Sue O'Leary of Eureka,
Bonnie and husband Charles Shockley of New Haven; one brother-in-law, W.C. and
wife Sharon Foster of Flippin, Ark.; one sister-in-law, Veneta and husband Joe
Deaton of Louisiana; special friends Bobby and Vickie Breckenridge of Pacific
and their daughter, Rachel, who called Bob, Papa; nieces, nephews, great-nieces
and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services
were held Friday, June 13, at Nieburg-Vitt, Thiebes Funeral Home, Pacific with
Rev. Greg Bond officiating. Interment was in Sunset Cemetery, Pacific.
