Elroy Bishop Henry, 95, of Sturgis, died at 9:35 p.m., June 29, 2003, at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital in Wyandotte, Michigan.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph Henry of California and Thomas Henry of Commerce, Mich.; two sisters Mary Ruark of Salem, Ky., and Nora Sheldon of Holt, Mich.; and one granddaughter.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 3 at Pythian Ridge Cemetery. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Lora (Gibson) Norton, 84, of Evansville, Ind., died June 29, 2003 at her residence.

Mrs. Norton was born July 7, 1918 in Webster County to Jess and Cordie Gibson. She was a homemaker and very active in the Lighthouse Guild for the blind for many years. She was an active member of Washington Avenue Church of Christ for over 60 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Edwin Norton in 1978; a sister Oma Taylor in 1982; and a brother Toy Gibson in 1986.

Survivors include Donneita E. Fenton and her husband Scott of Greenwood, Ind.; a son, Robert Ed Norton and his wife Karen, of Los Angeles, Calif.; two grandchildren and their spouses; and five great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, July 3, at Washington Avenue Church of Christ, 4001 Washington Avenue, in Evansville. Stephen Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in the Odd Fellow Cemetery in Clay.

Billy Franklin Compton, 87, of Evansville, Ind., formerly of Hanson, died at 4:03 p.m., Saturday, June 28, 2003.

Mr. Compton was a semi truck driver for T.L.I. Trucking in St. Louis and worked for 31 years for Ohio Valley Container and Inland Container.

He was born April 17, 1936 in Hanson, to Artie Lee and Christine Mae (Gish) Compton.

He was preceded in death by his mother Christine Compton in 1993.

Survivors include his father Artie Lee Compton of Sacramento, Ky.; two daughters Brenda and her husband Bobby Alvey of Morganfield and Julie Alexander of Henderson; his companion for more than 20 years, Wanda Tucker of Evansville; and four grandchildren, Kelsey, Kaitlin and Kristin Alvey, all of Morganfield and Casey Speakes of Evansville.

Funeral services were held Tuesday July 1 at the Chapel of Harris Funeral Home in Madisonville with Rev. Zach Hibbs officiating. Burial was in the Hanson Cemetery in Hanson.

Aron Fredrick Smith, infant son of Kana Renfro and Lance Smith of Madisonville, died at 4;27 a.m., Thursday June 26, 2003 at Methodist Hospital Henderson.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Howard Renfro and Maurice Smith.

In addition to his parents he is survived by two brothers, Kevin and Jonathan; maternal grandmother, Nancy Renfro of Madisonville; Paternal grandmother Cathy Jo Smith of Sturgis; great-grandparents, Ed and Margaret Dempsey of Sturgis and Maurice and Anna Smith of Pleasant Grove, Utah.

Graveside services were held Friday, June 27 at Old Bethel Cemetery in Union County with Rev. Joey Durham officiating.

Mary Jane Holeman, 83, of Sturgis, died at 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 25 2003 at National Health Care in Greenville, S.C.

Mrs. Holeman was a graduate of Ward Belmont College and a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Sturgis. She liked antiques, bridge and was an avid reader and enjoyed the collectors club.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.B. Holeman in 1998; and a son Andrew Bennett Holeman in 1973.

Survivors include three children, J.B. Holeman Jr., of Greer, S.C., a daughter, Janis Reynolds of Charleston, W.Va., and a son John V. Holeman of Sturgis; one sister, Cynthia Lewis of Scott, Ark.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Rebecca Salisbury officiating. Burial was in the Pythian Ridge Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church or to the Sturgis Public Library.

William "Bob" Curry, 81, of Summerville, S.C., formerly of Union County, died Saturday, June 21, 2003.

Mr. Curry served in World War II as a Navy pilot. He, his father, brother and nephew were active in the Harness Horse Business for a number of years.

Survivors include his wife Mildred D. Curry, one niece and one nephew.

Taylor Ray Barnes, 27, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Friday, June 20, 2003.

A native of Morganfield, Mr. Barnes was a shift manager for Steak and Shake on Pleasant Hill Road.

Survivors include his mother Bonnie Warren and a sister, Khristal Barnes, both of Jacksonville, Fla.

Local survivors include his father and stepmother Mike and Carol Barnes of Sturgis.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 28 in the Bill Head Funeral Home Lilburn/Tucker chapel.
