farmer of Morganfield Precinct, is the son of Elijah and
Catherine (Jones) Hughes. His parents were both from Spencer County, Kentucky.
His paternal grandfather was Hezekiah Hughes; his maternal grandfather, John
Jones, married Caroline Wigington. Our subject was born in Union County October
24, 1856; he got eight or nine years' training in the Union schools, and
married Mary Belle Price of Webster County, on October 19, 1882. One child has
been born of this union. Mr. Hughes has fifty acres of land, but cultivates 100
commonly. His farm is on the Morganfield and Marion road; he makes a specialty
of wheat and corn. Our subject has been a member of the Cumberland and
Presbyterian Church for about two years. He is a young man of industry, and
will most certainly make his mark.
