REV. CLAIBORNE DUVAL

By Wm H Newman; M J Clements; G W Cambron, 1886

The pioneer Methodist preacher of Union County, was born in Virginia January 4, 1788. He was ordained deacon in the Methodist Episcopal Church October 8, 1814. This argues that he must have been preaching at least two years previously. On October 16, 1816, he married, came to Union County, quit the traveling ministry, and settled within three miles of Morganfield. A ministry of many years followed, in which our subject was a faithful, earnest and constant local minister in the church of his choice. Antioch Church was founded by this zealous man, and he gave the land for the church and cemetery.

Two of his children, Mrs. J. W. C. Houston, and H. C. Duval are still living in the county. He died where he had lived and preached for so many years, on September 13, 1834. He was a true minister of God, and his works do follow him.
